The Blue Star Legacy

Pioneers in women’s basketball excellence

While many camps lean towards the men’s game, Blue Star has held the beacon for women’s basketball from the onset. With a rich legacy surpassing 40 years, Blue Star stands as the pinnacle experience in girls’ grassroots basketball.

Origins

In 1981, the Blue Star Invitational Camps were born with a distinct mission: to give young female basketball talents a stage to shine against the country’s top players. As the first to offer this platform in the sport for females, the most recent edition of the Blue Star 30 Camp has proven to be the benchmark for aspiring 7th/8th-grade athletes.

Evolution

As the basketball landscape evolved, so did we. By the late 90’s, Blue Star College Showcases emerged, aligning with the shifts in the NCAA Observation Calendar. This recognized the undeniable significance of spring, summer, and fall exposure, ensuring young players consistently had a platform to display their craft in front of college scouts.

Our distinction

  1. Experienced coaches: The majority of the people involved, including the new owner Chris Mennig, are former Division I WOMENS college coaches or at the very least present/former college coaches at some level. They have the professional ability to help guide the players to where they aspire to play better than anyone because of their firsthand knowledge and their track record of success. No other group in the women’s game has the same collegiate resume depth as those involved with Blue Star.

  2. Unmatched database: Our immense database of college women’s basketball coaches spanning D1, D2, D3, NAIA, NCCAA, USCAA, and JC levels is unmatched. This puts Blue Star in a position to be the unparalleled ‘bridge’ between budding basketball stars and their dream college teams. Plus, the Blue Star Basketball Report is the longest-running girls scouting service serving the college community since the mid-80s.

Impact

The numbers speak for themselves. A staggering 70% of the top female high school players for the past four decades have honed their skills at Blue Star. This newest rendition, Blue Star 30, has become the All American event for the game. Dive into our past, and it reads like a veritable “Who’s Who” of college (and now pro) basketball stars. From the likes of successful present & past college coaches like Dawn Staley, Brenda Frese, & Muffet McGraw the list is staggering.  To present/past WNBA stars Candace Parker, Skyler Diggins, & Breanna Stewart the Blue Star brand has been ingrained in the women’s basketball landscape since its inception.

In the past two years alone, 10 out of the 12 USA Basketball 16u roster & 8 out of 12 on the 17u roster were former Blue Star 30 selections. The McDonald's All American selections are countless, and the many accolades along the way are too many to write about (but you can find them in the Alumni Section).

Exposure

Annually, every major girls' grassroots scouting service and/or media outlet attend to evaluate and, in turn, help elevate these future prospects' exposure to the next level. The people that have a say in the selections of Gatorade Circle of Champions, McDonald's All-Americans, Naismith All Americans, Jordan Brand Game, USA Today All American Team, etc., are under one roof.

Blue Star isn’t just a camp – it’s where legends are nurtured.
